The 3 Strain Children were Baptized

It was a very special occasion last Sunday when Amber, William, and Robert Strain were baptized by their Father. Elder Stone and Smith taught them. If you knew Elder Stone you wouldn't be surprised. He is full of the spirit and teaches like very few others. He is amazing.
Amber has come to church with her Father and brothers for over a year. She went with us to YW Girls Camp and had a wonderful experience. She even bore her testimony. She has been one of our most active Young Women all year. She adds a very bubbly, creative, intelligent element to our Young Women Meetings and activities. She is also growing more beautiful all of the time.
It was very special seeing her Father baptize them and their Mother come and support their decision. It was a special family moment.

I'm so thankful for President Gordon B. Hinckley

Through President Hinckley's challenge to read the Book of Mormon by the end of 2005 , I really was able to connect the book together in a way I never had before. It is easy when you are reading a chapter at a time to forget what is really going on.

Reading this book in his memory was another great spiritual experience. I have no doubt that this book came from God. It is the best roadmap we can follow to find joy and happiness on this earth and in the eternities.

Completed the Hinckley Challenge

I finished and I am so grateful for this wonderful book. Each time I read it I better understand and appreciate it's teaching.

We enjoy every minute that we can spend with them. We wish it could be more often.

My favorite part of our visits are when they entertain us with the fun songs they know. This is one musical family, all included.

What a good looking Cub Scout

Our day started out really windy and cold. We all warmed up by the end of the day. Tanner is standing by one of my favorite animals to see, the zebras.

Hogle Zoo with the Beck's

Last Saturday we were able to enjoy a special day at the zoo with Byron, Tricia and their six children. It was "Earth Day" at the zoo and people where handing out all kinds of treasures to remind us to recycle, conserve, and take care of our planet.

They had many groups performing song and dance routines. It was a very fun day.

We enjoyed seeing a baby giraffe, turtle, monkey and a meerkat. The white alligator was a fun experience. I was amazed at how well Tricia's children knew the different species of animals by name. Some of the names I could barely say let alone memorize. They are well educated.

We all enjoyed a fun train ride. The playground had all kinds of things to discover.

Ally at her BYU Commencement

This was a special evening. We were able to enjoy this evening with her by listening to Elder Bednar speak. He encouraged them to be "Life-time Learners". The room was totally packed and babies were everwhere. Doug and I and Ally's in-laws, Warren and Nancy Ashby were there on this special occasion. Pres. Samuelson's first year as BYU President, was Allyson's Freshman year. She really enjoyed having him as President. His remarks were on the importance of continuing your spiritual education and going forth and serving others.

Making this occasion even more special she was able to enjoy it with two of her first room-mates, Sara and Melissa who also graduated.

She is putting her Education to work

Myles and Rose are her on the job experience in progress. There is nothing like being a Mother except being a Father, a grandmother, and grandfather.

Ally did it!

Allyson graduated from BYU with her bachelors in Home and Family Living.
What a special day! Dallin, Myles and Rose were there to see her walk across the stage and receive her diploma. She was also joined by Tricia and her three youngest, Parker, Carter & Bradley, her Mother-in-law Nancy Ashby, her Uncle Rob and Aunt Sharyl Adamson and her Dad and Mom.

Tagged I'm it and who will be next?

Karla has tagged me and finally I have had a moment to reply.

What I was doing 10 years ago? 1998

I had to look in my trusty journal. I might switch to Doug's journal. We have a new pact. He will do the journal writing and I will do the scripture study. Is their enough time in life for everything? (First journal entry for 1998, "Our lesson was on journal keeping and I am determined to do better at writing." Wow, I'd better get with it.

1. I was working in Young Women's. In Corcoran my life has mainly revolved around family and Young Women's. I really do enjoy working with these wonderful girls. I learn a great deal from them and about myself.

2. Elizabeth Jamison was born to Heather and Paul Feb. 4, 1998. What a precious new granddaughter. When she was born her older sister called her "Bethlehem". That is sort of close. (I'm glad that I wrote that down.) I love being a grandmother.

3. Janessa and I had fun preparing for her and Mitchell's wedding and reception. It was nice to finally have a wedding in California. The mudslide that delayed their reception for a couple of hours, made it unforgettable. We all left LA at different times. Tricia and her family made it to the reception when the decorations were taken down. That part was sad.

4. As like right now I was looking forward to our weekly letter from our missionary. Jared was in Venezuela at that time and Adam is in Portugal now.

5. My father had his second open-heart surgery and a double pacemaker put in. I hated to leave my Daddy looking so white. He didn't even know that I had been there. Just before I left for home I told him good-bye. He was unconscious and I didn't know if I'd see him alive again. I told him that I loved him and he squeezed my fingers letting me know that he knew I was there. I was so grateful.

Five things on my "To Do List"

1. Paint the trim in our bedroom and put up new curtains and rearrange the room.

2. Reorganize all of our Family History.

3. Read the "Twilight Series".

4. Pass out and collect all of our Young Women's camp forms. It is amazing how long this takes.

5. Work on our yard, plant flowers and haul in dirt.

Snacks I enjoy. Since I started Weight Watchers my snacks have changed.

1. Fresh fruit of any kind

2. Weight Watchers giant fudgesicles

3. Sugar-free Chocolate Turtles

4. Sugar-free Jello with fruit and Cool Whip

Five things I would do if I was a Billionaire

1. Pay off our car, home and put away money for a mission.

2. Help our children with down payments for a home and future education.

3. If I had that much money I would like to make it possible for more medium income jobs to be available in Corcoran.

4. Give money to the Republican Party to encourage "Conservative Values".

5. Give a secret windfall to those in need.

Five of my bad habits

1. Going to bed late

2. Bad posture

3. Not acting upon many of my good intentions.

4. Eating too much chocolate

5. Feeling disorganized but I have improved over the years.

5. Visiting all of the places where our direct ancestors immigrated from.

All Corcoran Branch Members Past and Present

We have been asked to update the Corcoran Branch History from where Rhondaleen & Ken moved. Sorry we have really dropped the ball on her wonderful history.
I have been asked to include any of your experiences or impressions on your time that you have lived in Corcoran. Please will you let any of your families know about this. We really would like your comments about experiences that helped you to grow, inspired you, activities or projects that you really enjoyed, ect.
Anyone who has gone on a mission since 1995, please will you send me the dates that you served and the official name of your mission.
Please will you take the time to do this. It can be long or short. It can come a little at a time as you think of it or all at once but please write and send it to me at adamsonp@comcast.net
Their has always been a very special spirit here and a feeling of family. We all have grown from living here.

Rachel's Baptism

Rachel's baptism was the reason for our trip. It was wonderful and we enjoyed every minute we spent with all of our family up there. We were able to attend Michael and Rachel's Science Fair and Heather and I put up a bulletin board in their school.
We enjoyed seeing performances by all of the Jamison's while they rocked out to High School Musical and rock music.

Rachel had a wonderful baptism. It was a very special evening. It is hard to believe that they are all so grown up. This was Paul and Heather's child to be baptized.

Trains Are His Favorite

Tavis loved doing all of the fun things that his cousins were doing but I think the train is still his favorite. Tavis and Hailey spent a great deal of their time on the dual slides and running through the maze to get back up the slide. Tavis is kind of shy but finally he brought me a book to read him and we read for along time. He loves books.

Jade is a lot like Jared

Jade is full of energy and likes to pull faces like her Daddy. She was throughly entertained by Lindsay and Ashley. They took her down slides, rode a bike with her and carried her all over. Never a dull moment.

No Time for Pictures

All of the children had a great time. This was as close as I was going to get with a picture of Tavis, Danielle and Jade. They seemed to enjoy every minute. It was great. As adults we all got to have fun being kids.

Doug and I had a lot of fun with Janessa and her girls, Danielle, Tavis and Jade at Out of this World Pizza. I discovered that going down slides is for the young, not the old.

Final Product

Here is our final product. They turned out great and tasted so good. Hailey is enjoying the extra jellybeans while she waits for the nests to harden up.

It was fun to be at Janessa's house when they announced that they are expecting another baby.

Making Rice Krispie Egg Nests

Janessa had everything ready for us to make Rice Krispie Egg Nests. It was fun being in the kitchen with her girls. They are a lot of help.

Special Time at the Couch Home

Over Spring Break Doug and I were able to spend time with our families in Oregon. We enjoyed spending 2 nights at each home. It was wonderful!!! Here we are at Janessa's home. This is Hailey our little poser. I thought this was such a sweet picture. We enjoyed visiting watching Ashley, Lindsay, and Hailey do gymnastics. They are learning so much.

I am still plugging along and enjoying every minute of it. I am now on page 194.

President Marion G. Romney in 1960 said “By reading the Book of Mormon we will fill and refresh our minds with the constant flow of that ‘water’ which Jesus said would be in us—‘a well of water springing up into everlasting life.’ (John 4:14.) We must obtain a continuing supply of this water if we are to resist evil and retain the blessings of being born again. …
“If we would avoid adopting the evils of the world, we must pursue a course which will daily feed our minds with and call them back to the things of the Spirit. I know of no better way to do this than by reading the Book of Mormon.”

In honor of President Hinckley I have accepted the Hinckley Challenge to read the Book of Mormon in 97 days, a day for every year of his life.

President Hinckley taught me so much and to honor his teaching and the life he lived I have chosen to accept the Hinckley challenge and read the Book of Mormon in 97 days.
Right now I am on page 166. I'm posting this so that I will get on the ball, catch up and finish on time.
The first Hinckley Challenge was such an awesome experience for Doug and I.

Up With People

In September we had the wonderful learning and sharing opportunity to host 2 students from the "Up With People" cast. Benjamine is from Bornem, Belgium and Jessica is from Tuscon, Arizona. New Beginnings

I know that some of our past Corcoran Branch members are looking at this sight and I thought that I would show you some pictures of our Young Women.

This was quite the day. Linda, Doug and I went to get things ready right after school. I'm so glad that we went early. We walked into the Relief Society room where we planned to have our program and the closet doors were open and a huge cable coming out one of the doors. The room had the strangest smell. The cable was for a new sound system that was being installed. The cultural hall had all kinds of equipment in there. We quickly moved to the Primary room.
It turned out to be a wonderful evening. Sister Bower's shared the story of how the Personal Progress Program came to be. If you haven't heard that story it is worth looking for. I think it is in a book by Ardeth Kapp. It is so inspired and such a blessing to all Young Women throughout the world.

Young Women in Excellence

This was Young Women in Excellence. We had a "Share Fair". Our Young Women shared experiences that they had during the year, what they learned and how they felt about their experience.

I was working on a slideshow but had quite a bit still to do when Allyson's little Rose decided it was time for her to come. She was several weeks early. Doug finished the slideshow while I was in Utah. It turned out really nice. I was amazed when I got home about 10:00 the night before the program and looked at this presentation with the music. It ended right on time and Doug hadn't worked with the music when he was putting it together. I had goosebumps because I know that we were getting extra help from above.

Our Beloved Prophet President Gordon B. Hinckley

My heart has been full this day as I watched President Hinckley's beautiful tribute to his life. So many memories went through my head. I love him so very much and I have been so blessed by his messages. He has taught me so much in word and deed. He will never be forgotten in my mind.
He has been the example that I looked up to when times have gotten tough. When I have felt overwhelmed by my calling as Young Women President, I think about all of the service that he has offered the world and I feel humbled and get back to doing the Lord's will. He made the most of life by pushing forward everyday with hope and optimism.
I am so very grateful that he received the inspiration that has lead to so many more temples upon this earth. We love going to the Fresno Temple. I like that it is small. We are greeted each time by people that we know and it adds that homey touch.
I remember one day Doug's mother was commenting on a new temple that was announced in Utah. I said something to her that I shouldn't have said but I wondered out loud "Why Utah needed more temples in the Salt Lake Valley when so many of us had to travel so far to a temple?" I shocked her. Of course I was not thinking of how many more people were living in the areas around Utah. I was only thinking about the 2 1/2 -3 hour drive we made as often as we could to the Los Angeles Temple.
One day I was at the grocery store and I saw our Branch President, Greg Lundeen. He told me that a temple had been announced for Fresno. What a wonderful day that was, January 16, 1999.
President Hinckley has been instrumental in encouraging so many wonderful programs. The one that astounds me is the Humanitarian Projects. It just amazes me how quickly the church responds to a major disaster shortly after it happens. What a blessing it is in so many peoples lives. Putting together "hygiene kits", helped me to reflect on what it must mean to a person displaced in a disaster to have a toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, clean towel, ect. I think of that experience each time I hear of a disaster and think of how the Humanitarian Aide will probably be heading their way along with members from near and far. I have been amazed at how closely the church has worked with the Red Cross. What a special tribute to the Integrity of the Church.
I like what was said today about his counsel to husbands and wives. I have heard that counsel several times and each time it is good to reflect upon it.
Since I don't have the talk that quoted it I went to "The Discourses of Gordon B. Hinckley" and his address to a group in St. Thomas on January 12, 2004:
"You men, respect your wives. Treat them with kindness and courtesy, and try to be helpful to them....
You wives, support your husbands, They need it, They need your help and your support, and they are deserving of it as they plod their difficult way. Support them and help them and encourage them every way you can.
And your children who are sons and daughters of God, treat them with kindness, and bring them up in love."
We will all miss him but that must have been quite a reunion in heaven.
